Hello Optimist! What an honor it is to serve as your Governor for the 2008-2009 Optimist year! Through our efforts as Optimist, I look forward to the growth of the District in being able to serve more kids in our communities. Working together as a team, we WILL accomplish that goal.

Governor Pam Gargis and Governor Billy Staehle are to be commended for their successful endeavors in uniting the District last year. A job well done! A heartfelt "Thank You" is given to each of you for your dedication to the AL-LA-MS District.

Growth, teamwork, and the number 5, will be watchwords for this year. Working together, as a team, we can accomplish growth in membership, which means more projects, more programs and more opportunities to reach our kids. The theme for the 2008-2009 AL-LA-MS District is "Commit 5 for the Kids". The goals for the District are directly related to the theme. The goals are:

1. Commit for 5 new Members per Club

2. Commit for 5 new Adult Clubs

3 Commit for 5 new JOOI Clubs

4. Commit for 5% District Growth

5. Commit for 5 Community Project Awards in each state of the District

These goals are truly achievable. Several Clubs already have new members, others have started on JOOI Clubs, and potential areas have been identified for Adult Clubs. WE, the members of the AL-LA-MS District, are off to a great start!

Optimist International President, Don Sievers, theme for the year is "Give Me "Five" for the Kids". As an Optimist member, each of us is an important member of this District Team. As President Sievers stated in part, in a recent email, "Thank you for being a part of this team. The organization needs you...communities need you ...I need you...". To his statement, I would add - I need you to Commit 5 for the Kids!

Take care. Enjoy Today!

Janet
